Health Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
Taking action today to build an equitable tomorrow
We believe equity is an essential principle that must be incorporated into every aspect of our organization. At the UCLA Health Office of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (HEDI), our team provides a wide range of programs, services and educational tools to make care more equitable. We also lead several initiatives that address inequalities, promote diversity and enhance the wellness of our patients, staff and community.
Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality care in an inclusive, welcoming and respectful environment. We work in ways big and small, from implementing system-wide policies to improving interactions between UCLA Health providers and patients.
The pillars of equitable, inclusive care
Our team works closely with UCLA Health leadership to optimize the health and well-being of our patients, staff and community members. By focusing on these three pillars, our comprehensive approach enables us to address inequities and discrimination while promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity.
Delivering world-class patient care is at the core of everything we do at UCLA Health. We celebrate the diversity of the people we serve while recognizing the marginalization and oppression that many of our patients have experienced. We are here to support our patients’ medical and social needs and to help them achieve the highest level of health possible.
We know that the only way to provide high-quality, equitable patient care is to ensure that our workforce understands what that is and how to deliver it. We cultivate a work environment that is inclusive, supportive and respectful so that every member of our team can thrive and reach their full potential.
To achieve optimal health outcomes for our patients, it is essential to improve the well-being of our community. The Office of HEDI partners with community-based organizations and affinity groups to address the socioeconomic factors impacting many of our patients. Together, we serve as a bridge between UCLA Health care providers and community members.
